Ernestine Mary Collard-Scruby

b. 21 October 1912, d. 1985
Ernestine Mary Collard-Scruby was born on 21 October 1912 at England.1
Ernestine Mary Collard-Scruby was also known as Mary.
Ernestine Mary Collard-Scruby married Frederick Griffith Griffiths, son of Frederick Ernest Griffiths and Rosanna Boyles Gardner, on 11 September 1943 at St John the Baptist, Southend, Lewisham, London, England.2
Emigrated to Western Australia in October 1954. Daughter Moir had rheumatic fever and it was thought that going to a warm country was a remedial thing to do at the time. Sailed from Tilbury on P&O’s “Oronsay” and arrived in Fremantle. Stayed at the Archbishop of Perth’s place in Perth for a week or two and then went up to Merredin whereFrederick was Rector at All Saints, Merredin. Unfortunately the heat was too much for wife Mary. She could not sweat properly so after about eighteen months they had to come home again on “Strathaird”. It was a wonderful adventure for the children though.
Ernestine Mary Collard-Scruby died in 1985 at Cheshire, England.1

Elizabeth Collen

d. 1792
Although Elizabeth Collen/Collin's baptism has not been found, the only family with that name in Helingly in the 1750s were Charles and Lydia Collen. They had children baptised in Hellingly: Sarah 1754; James 1757 and Mary 1759.
Another important clue is that a John Akehurst was one of the witnesses to the marriage of Thomas Farrant and Mary Collen/Collins at Laughton on 20 Apr 1778. This is likely to be the John Akehurst who married Elizabeth Collins at Hellingly on 26 Dec 1776. Were Elizabeth and Mary sisters?1
Marriage banns for Elizabeth Collen and John Akehurst were published on 24 November 1776 at St Peter & St Paul, Hellingly, Sussex, England; Banns were read on 24 Nov, 1 Dec and 15 Dec 1776.
