James Hooper's first wife, Mary Goldsmith, died in 1848.5
Their sons William and James Hooper emmigrated to the USA on the ship "Yorktown" which departed London and arrived New York on 28 May 1849. They give their ages as 20 and 18 respectively. Extensive searching for William, James and Frederick has failed to find them anywhere in the UK after the 1841 census.
So far, no trace of William Hooper has been found after he moved to the USA. However, his brother James Hooper (who was also known as Joseph Hooper) was found to have married Catherine O’Donnell and had a family whose descendants are alive today.
James was paced in an almshouse/poorhouse in old age, and his registration documents state that his parents were James Hooper and Mary Goldsmith, confirming the link.

James Hooper was found on a passenger list on 28 May 1849 arriving New York on the ship "Yorktown" having departed from London.
Terry Heismann writes: "My grandmother, Donalda Ann Hooper, daughter of William Henry Hooper, son of Joseph James Hooper told me that even though her grandfather was dead before she was born in 1915, that her father told her that Joseph was born in Brighton England. That is the only evidence I have of his birth location". On his 1 Aug 1911 admittance to an almshouse, Joseph's parents are listed as James Hooper and Mary Goldsmith, thus confirming the connection.

On 19 August 1850 James Hooper lived at Hackinsack, New Jersey, United States. Terry Heismann writes: I have a possible match in the 1850 Census, Bergen Co., NJ but I am not able to say it is definitely him as he is alone, while I strongly believe it to be him. (My grandmother told me her father William was born in Bergen Co., NJ.)
