Lucy Knight was baptized on 17 November 1793 at St John the Baptist, Wivelsfield, Sussex, England, the father James Knight is "pauper". Mother's name is not given.1,2 She was the daughter of James Knight and Mary Attree.
Lucy Knight married Samuel King, son of Benjamin King and Mary Buckman, on 1 February 1823 at Ovingdean, Sussex, England, Samuel is "of West Firle."3
Regarding their daughter Jane King, Michael George writes: I am descended from Jane King b1826 in Brighton, and I have never found a baptism for her. Because of this and the fact she married in 1846 she does not show up with Lucy and Samuel. I wonder if there are other children born between 1823 when they wed and 1828 when they started having some of their children baptised in the Dorset Street Chapel in Brighton, that like Jane do not show up?
Jane married John Henry Dickson on 15th June 1846 at St Johns Paddington, and her father is listed as Samuel King, stonemason.
... We have a letter written at the time of Lucy Kings death in 1871,sent to John Swift, talking of Lucys passing, and mentions aunts Eliza and Harriet. Eliza I know wed a Southerwood and had two children that died. We have a photo of her and a number of Jane. I have not been able to trace Harriet other than her appearance on the 1851 census, frustratingly they dont appear on the 1841, or1861. The letter says Lucy was buried in Brompton cemetary, but i'm not sure if Samuel was buried there.
(Michael George, 19Jan2015.)
In 1836 Lucy Knight and Samuel King lived at 7 Bedford Buildings, Brighton, Sussex, England.4
On 30 March 1851 Lucy Knight and Samuel King lived at 23 Hanley St, Paddington, Middlesex, England.1
