Deborah Manser was baptized on 29 October 1648 at St Bartholomews Church, Burwash, Sussex, England. She was the daughter of Christopher Manser and Anne Byne.
I don't know where this baptism came from but when I checked the SFHG baptisms Index it, the actual baptism on that date in Burwash was for a Katherine Maunser. However, there was a note saying "transcripts notes christian name erased". The father was given as Christopher Maunser, but this particular baptism is speculative until proved otherwise.
Deborah Manser married William Barber, son of John Barber alias Nynne and Mary (?), on 6 February 1671/72 at St Mary's, Ticehurst, Sussex, England, Deborah of Burwash; William of Ticehurst.1
Whether William Barber, son of John Nynne alias Barber and Mary of Rotherfield, is the correct William who married Deborah Manser at Ticehurst, is still open to some doubt although it looks a good fit. The question is whether instead William was actually the son of one of the Barber families in Ticehurst (given they married there and lived there). There is a William Barber bap. 15 Feb 1656/57 at Ticehurst son of William Barber (mother not stated). The marriage to Deborah Manser on 6 Feb 1671 would put his age at no more than 15 years so he is not a candidate. The only other possibility is that some baptisms in Ticehurst may have been lost (probably due to the Civil War) - some of the families put together from the records do appear very patchy and ommissions have been discovered. However, based on available facts, William son of John and Mary is the only candidate for now. In his favor there is evidence of movement of people and families between Rotherfield, Wadhurst, and Ticehurst, and one branch on the Nynne alias Barber family did move there (Elizabeth Barber who married William Bowden c1622 had children in Ticehurst - marriage not found but documented in a will). There is a William Barbar burial at Rotherfield on 19 Dec 1682 which has yet to be placed. However, the fact that the grandson William Barber (who married Elizabeth Wesson) named a son Nicholas is supportive of the connection as John Barber had a son Nicholas by his second marriage to Eleanor Maynard and it is not a common name in the Barber families.
Deborah Manser died in 1686 at Ticehurst, Sussex, England.
