They had my mother Maria Sarah (Sally as she was known) and a son called Thomas. Ellen Jane left them all, including here children, with my grandfather, I am not sure if they saw her again, but my mum doesn't remember her very much. After Frederick died Gladys or Rose took my mum in to work for them which didn't go too well, and she left them to join the WRENS. I know she kept in touch with Donald when he was a prisoner of war in Italy and lost contact with him when they transferred him to Italy. We tried to find him through the Ministry of Defence but apart from telling us that he was alive they would tell us nothing else. My mum (Maria Sarah Marchant) was brought up as Sarah Deacon she only found out she was a Marchant when she joined the WRENS, and that Cecil was named as her father, Thomas was registered in the name of White which mum found out when he died, why Ellen Jane did this and did not register them as Deacon's I do not know."

From Joan, daughter of Maria Sarah Marchant: Another interesting story, from my father, is about Cecil's son Cecil James. He came back from Australia,on his own, and stayed with Uncle Percy. While visiting Aunt Edie and her adopted daughter Eva he attacked them. Dad described it as a brainstorm and Cecil ended up in Haywards Heath mental institution. A year later we moved into our own flat in Deewhy near the beach. Then 18 mths later we travelled to the Central Coast, an hour and a half north of Sydney to check it out over the weekend, as friends of dad had said it was delightful and out of the rat-race of the city.
