  • Anecdote: John Akehurst had an interest in Blackstock, a medieval farm between Hellingly and Grove Hill, as he stood to inherit it after the death of his father. He sells it in 1597 for £240 suggesting that his father had died sometime between 1589-1597.

  • Anecdote: John Akehurst's will made 12 Aug 1617 nominates his son John as executor, suggesting that he was a child of a previous marriage as John had married Katherine only two years earlier in 1615. Also, this son John is referred to as a husbandman in 1624 suggesting that he was an adult by then.4

    John Brooke of Hooe, yeoman, sold the premises to John Akehurst of Catsfield, husbandman, in 1624, and both parties conveyed it to Nicholas Gotlye of Whatlington, collier, in 1624. In 1634 Nicholas Gotly and Andrew Edwards of Rodmell, yeoman, sold the premises to John Peckham of Salehurst, yeo. SAU/739, 1658, is a covenant whereby William Peckham of Salehurst, yeoman, was to stand seized to uses of the premises. In 1805 John Fuller of Catsfield House, Catsfield, esq., bought the premises from John Micklethwaite of Iridge Place in Salehurst, esq.
