Harriet Eleanor Morris was born in 1879 at Little Horsted, Sussex, England.1 She was the daughter of Silas Morris and Martha Jeffery.
Harriet Eleanor Morris was a domestic nurse on 2 April 1911.
In the 1911 census Harriet was a domestic nurse for Anthony and Edith HORDERN. Anthony was born in Sydney, NSW as was one of their children (Hazel, born 1903).
On 2 April 1911 Harriet Eleanor Morris lived at Birchwood, West Byfleet, Chertsey, Surrey, England.
Harriet was a children's nanny who never married but travelled the world with the family in which she was employed. She wrote many postcards to Ada and Leslie. One is from Western Australia dated 21.11.1911, another from Sydney N.S.W. dated 1907. She spent some time living at Eaton's Hotel, Pennant Hills N.S.W. When Harriet retired the family who employed her gave her a pension and used to visit her. Ada used to say that she had a very good job and was well looked after. Harriet died in Brighton about 1930. Possibilities for her death are 1926 age 46 yrs in Chertsey, Surrey or 1936 age 53 yrs in Eastbourne.
Harriet Eleanor Morris died on 23 February 1926 at Rylston, Oatlands Drive, Weybridge, Surrey, England.2,3
Rylston is a large detached manor house on Oatlands Drive, Weybridge and is now the Register Office in which there is a room called the Rylston Room. The following information comes from the Register Office website:
The land in which Rylston is situated on was originally royal hunting grounds at the time of Henry VIII. The house itself was built in 1911. It was purchased by Surrey County Council in 1963 and in 1993 became a Register Office. It has undergone some structural changes over the years, but the overall exterior of the house has hardly changed. It is a beautiful detached manor house with a large porch at the entrance. The building retains most of its unique features including leaded light windows with original glass and unusual wrought iron fittings. The ground floor retains original oak panelling and fireplaces. The magnificent oak staircase with stained glass windows sweeps down to French windows leading onto the gardens.
Her estate was probated on 28 April 1926 at London, England, Effects: £88 3s. Probate to William Morris, railway inspector.2

Joseph Morris

b. circa 1751, d. 1827
Joseph Morris was born circa 1751 at Sussex, England.
There is a Joseph Morris baptised 1750 at Maresfield, son of Richard and Susannah Morris which looked a good match, but this Joseph was buried at Maresfield in 1762 "son of Richard & Susannah."
Joseph Morris married Hannah Turner on 31 March 1778 at Framfield, Sussex, England.1
Noted as paupers on Moses' baptism.
Joseph Morris senior is listed in the poor tax assessments as having a property with a rental value of one pound and he was assessed to pay 2s/6d. In 1824 he is noted as Joseph Morris at Bird in Eye.2
Joseph Morris died in 1827 at Framfield, Sussex, England.
Joseph Morris was buried on 13 May 1827 at Framfield, Sussex, England, widower, age 76 years.3

RESEARCH NOTES:

The following Joseph Morris baptisms were found in the E. Sussex Baptisms Index:
5 Aug1764 son of Edward and Mary, at Fairlight.
22 Oct 1763 son of Samuel and Elizabeth, at Brede.
29 Jun 1730 son of William and Ann, at Eastbourne.
23 Sep 1750 son of Richard and Susanna, at Maresfield (buried 17 May 1762, son of Richard and Susanna)
10 Sep 1747 son of Joseph Morris, butcher at Lewes Westgate Chapel (born 21 Aug 1747, buried 9 Aug 1751 at Lewes All Saints)
13 Jul 1752 son of Joseph Morris, butcher at Lewes Westgate Chapel (born 22 Jun 1752)

There is a burial in Framfield for a Joseph Morris on February 15th 1794 (age given as 10 months). This is likely to be the son of Thomas and Susannah Morris baptised 31 Mar 1793 at Framfield, because they had another son Joseph Morris baptised 7 Mar 1796 at Framfield which would indicate that the previous Joseph had died.

It is tempting to say that Joseph Morris is:
Joseph Morris baptised 13 Jul 1752 at Lewes, son of Joseph Morris (c1717-1795, a butcher) and Sarah Weller.
However, my research has shown that this person lived and died in Lewes so cannot be the Joseph Morris of Framfield. The evidence for this is:

1. There is a marriage licence for a Sarah Morris and Matthew Martin on 29 Oct 1804 indicates that Sarah is 18+ years old, of Laughton, marrying with consent of father Jos [Joseph] Morris, butcher, of Lewes. Her father Joseph Morris is most likely to be Joseph baptised 1752, the son of Joseph Morris (c1717-1795), also a butcher, and would imply that the son did not move to Framfield and marry Hannah Turner.

2. There is also a marriage licence for Elizabeth Morris and Charles Verrall on 1 Sep 1808 states that Elizabeth is a spinster age 20+ marrying with consent of father Joseph M., butcher, Lewes St.Michael, and that Charles Verrall is bach 21+ tallow chandler of the same parish. This is another confirmation that Joseph Morris stayed in Lewes and did not move to Framfield.

3. Baptisms for Sarah and Elizabeth Morris have not been found which probably indicates they were non-conformists. This is supported by the fact that Joseph Morris and Sarah Weller's children were all baptised at the Westgate Chapel in Lewes, a Meeting House for non-conformist worship.

4. A possible marriage for Joseph Morris (1752-1826) is:
18 Dec 1781 Joseph Morris and Ann Shoosmith married at Laughton. Joseph is a batchelor of Lewes St Michael. The marriage licence (17 Dec 1781) states that Joseph junr is a bachelor age 26+ tallowchandler of Lewes St Michael. The occupation of tallowchandler is obviously different to that of butcher but there could be an explanation for this and his daughter Elizabeth did marry a tallow chandler in 1808.

5. The will of William Shoosmith of Lewes made 17 Nov 1810, probate 6 Feb 1815 Lewes mentions the following people (including the 4 sons and 7 daughters of Joseph and Ann Morris):
William Morris (s/o Joseph Morris the elder)
Benjamin Morris (s/o Joseph Morris the elder)
Ebenezer Morris (s/o Joseph Morris the elder)
Joseph Morris the elder (Butcher of Lewes - executor)
Joseph Morris the younger (s/o Joseph Morris the elder)
Ann Morris (dau w/o Joseph Morris the elder)
Thomas North Shoosmith (brother)
Catherine Saxby widow (sister)
Thomas Saxby (nephew)
Charles Saxby (nephew)
Richard Saxby (nephew)
7 daus of Joseph Morris the elder (not named)
William Saxby (s/o nephew Thomas Saxby)
Thomas Saxby (s/o nephew Thomas Saxby)
John Saxby (s/o nephew Thomas Saxby)
Charles Saxby (s/o nephew Charles Saxby)
Richard Saxby (s/o nephew Charles Saxby)
Richard Saxby (s/o nephew Richard Saxby)
Charles Saxby (s/o nephew Richard Saxby)
Edward. Verral (witness)
S Verral (witness)
John Marten Wood (witness)

6. Lastly, the burial of Joseph Morris on 11 Nov 1826 at Lewes All Saints age 74 years matches perfectly with the 1752 birth.4
