Thief River Falls - Marilyn Smidt, 59, of Thief River Falls, died of cancer on Monday, July 31, 2006 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held on Friday, August 4, at First Lutheran Church in Stephen. Interment was held at the Stephen City Cemetery, with Rev. Mike Schendel presiding.
Marilyn Meek was born September 22, 1946 in Grand Forks, N.D., the daughter of Alvin and Sophie (Smith) Meek.
She grew up in Stephen and graduated from high school there in 1964. After high school Marilyn attended Aaker’s Business College in Grand Forks, N.D. On October 3, 1964 she married Rodney Smidt.
They settled in Stephen and Marilyn worked at the city clerk’s office and for the Dorothy Jose Accountant Office. Rodney passed away in 1975.
Marilyn moved to Thief River Falls in 1976 and continued her education at Northland Community College and the University of North Dakota. She worked at Thief River Falls Paint and Glass for several years and was currently employed at Digi-Key. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls.
Survivors include daughters, Patricia Smidt and her fiance Larry Ohren of Thief River Falls, Janelle (Patrick) Duncan of Marshall, Mo; a son, Greg (Shannon) Smidt of East Grand Forks; four grandchildren; brothers, Bill (Leslie) Meek of Starbuck and John (Linda) Meek of Alborn; her mother and father-in-law, Pearl and Albert Smidt of Stephen; two brothers-in-law, Roger (Jane) Smidt of Zainesville, Ohio and Jim (Ann) Smidt of Alexandria; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rodney; and brother, Larry.
