Lucy Verrall was born in 1778 at Eastbourne, Sussex, England.
Lucy Verrall was baptized on 18 October 1778 at St Mary's, Eastbourne, Sussex, England.1 She was the daughter of Samuel Verrall and Mary Wilkins.
The name VERRALL is common in Eastbourne going back to at about 1590. There are three possibilities for Lucy's baptism in Eastbourne:
18.10.1778 daughter of Samuel and Mary.
08 Aug 1779 daughter of Thomas and Sarah.
10.12.1780 daughter of William and Ann.
There is also a fourth possibility in nearby Willingdon: 01 Aug 1779 daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Verrall
The 1851 census gives her age as 72 years and her place of birth as Eastbourne which would be correct for the baptism to Samuel and Mary.
Her burial on 3 Nov 1858 gives her age as 80 years which also supports this.
One of the above Lucy Verrall's married a George Boniface, and one of her descendants (Pauline Mowbray) reports that there is a funeral card giving her date of birth as 1st November 1778. Based on this they conclude that Thomas and Sarah Verrall are the parents of this Lucy, thus eliminating one of the possibilities above and helping to confirm Samuel and Mary as the parents of our Lucy Verrall.
Lucy Verrall married Michael Godden, son of Thomas Godden and Mary Thomas, on 17 July 1795 at Eastbourne, Sussex, England, Lucy signs Lucy Virrel. Witnesses: Kexia Hunt, Thomas Ridley.2
There are no GODDENS recorded in the parish registers of Eastbourne before 1795 when Michael and Lucy were married.
The Sussex Family Historian (Dec. 1988 page 183) contained a list of paupers receiving parochial relief in the parish of Eastbourne from Lady Day 1831 to Lady Day 1832. Michael and Lucy were listed in this, aged 65 and 53 respectively, labourer of Meads, receiving 9 shillings per week and having received a total of 13 pounds 5 shillings and 6 pence for the period. Their son George and his wife Ann (both aged 29 years) and their three children were also receiving relief.
On 7 June 1841 Lucy Verrall and Michael Godden lived at Meads St, Eastbourne, Sussex, England.
Lucy Verrall witnessed the death of Michael Godden on 13 February 1851 at Eastbourne, Sussex, England; He died of decay of nature.3
On 30 March 1851 Lucy Verrall lived at Meads, Eastbourne, Sussex, England, a grocer's widow aged 72 years.4
Lucy Verrall died on 29 October 1858 at Meads, Eastbourne, Sussex, England, at age 80. She died of hydrothorax.5
Lucy Verrall was buried on 3 November 1858 at St Mary's, Eastbourne, Sussex, England, "age 80 years."6

Samuel Verrall was born in 1746 at Willingdon, Sussex, England.
Samuel Verrall was baptized on 9 November 1746 at St Mary, Willingdon, Sussex, England.1 He was the son of William Verrall and Mary Howell.
Note that there are two possibilities for our Samuel Verrall:
1. bap. 9 Nov 1746 son of William and Mary Verral at Willingdon.
2. bap. 26 Jan 1736 son of Cephas and Mary Verrall at Eastbourne.
However, there is the marriage of Samuel VIRRELL and Elizabeth Batcheller on 23 Oct 1758 at Willingdon which has to be the second Samuel as the first would be too young. Samuel and Elizabeth had a lot of children baptised in Willingdon starting from 1759 to 1781. The first born male was named William (1759), and the second was named Cephas (1763), then Samuel (1764). The fact that he named one of his sons Cephas supports the link to the 1736 baptism for this Samuel. This leaves the 1746 baptism for our Samuel who named his first two sons Samuel and William.1
