Parents:

Mother: Annie Mary Wadey b. 11 Mar 1872, d. 11 Dec 1953
Last Edited: 2 Oct 2021
  • Birth*: Florence Amy Taylor was born on 29 October 1909 at 11 London St, Brighton, Sussex, England.1
  • Name Variation: Florence Amy Taylor was also known as Midge.
  • She was the daughter of Annie Mary Wadey.
  • Anecdote: After the separation with George Taylor, Annie had daughter Florence Amy (Midge). The father was not disclosed on the birth certificate and Midge once asked her mother who her father was but she wouldn't say.
  • Anecdote*: Midge was taken to London by her sister Winifred at the age of 14 and placed into service. Winifred was already in service and got Midge a job. Winifred was known to have worked for Lord and Lady Harmsworth, and the fact that Midge's son David recalls her working for Lord and Lady Harmsworth suggests that this is where she worked.
  • Occupation*: Florence Amy Taylor was a house parlour maid on 29 September 1939.2
  • Residence*: On 29 September 1939 Florence Amy Taylor lived at 20 Streatham Common South, Wandsworth, London, England.2
  • Anecdote: Prior to 1939, Midge worked at Winton Lodge on Streatham Common for Lord and Lady Parsons and that is where she met Thomas Keats.
  • Marriage*: Florence Amy Taylor married Thomas Edwin Keats on 5 April 1941 at West Norwood, London, England.3
  • Married Name: As of 5 April 1941, her married name was Keats.
  • Anecdote: Midge was in service when she met Thomas Keats, probably around 1936. She was a lady's maid for Lady Parsons at Winton Lodge in Streatham, and he was the gardener. They had a long courtship and married in 1941 when Thomas went off to WW2. He was taken prisoner and she did not see him again until 1945.
  • Death*: Florence Amy Taylor died on 21 June 1997 at Thornton Heath, Surrey, England, at age 87. Note: date of birth given as 29 Oct 1909 which matches with the birth certificate.4

Alice Farmer

b. circa 1530, d. 1595

Parents:

Father: Adam Farmer b. c 1498, d. 1547
Mother: Alice (?) d. 1551
Last Edited: 17 Dec 2023
  • Birth*: Alice Farmer was born circa 1530 at Sussex, England.
  • She was the daughter of Adam Farmer and Alice (?)
  • Anecdote*: There is no record of Alice’s baptism as it would have been before 1538 when church records began.
It is likely that Alice is a sister or cousin of John FAMER/FERMOR who left a will made 13 Oct 1558 and proved 20 Mar 1558/59 (ESRO: PBT 1/1/4/305A) as he names Alice's children as beneficiaries. Alice has been shown as a sister of John in this family tree.
Also, John Nynne alias Barber's will of 1589 appoints Adam Farmer, “son of John Farmer deceased”, as an overseer, a further indication of kinship. The Rotherfield manorial court held on 22 Oct. 1 Eliz [1559] records the death of John Farmer and the admission of his 8 year old son Adam as heir and consequently Adam may have grown up quite close to the Nynne alias Barber family.
Pullein speculates that John Farmer may be connnected to Alexander Fermor of Walsh manor (as cousins) as they both named their first daughter Sylvester.1,2,3,4,5,6
  • Anecdote: The Fermor/Farmer family has a long history in Rotherfield and is well documented in the book "Rotherfield: The Story of Some Wealden Manors" by Catharine Pullein.7
  • Marriage*: Alice Farmer married John Barber alias Nynne, son of John Barber alias Nynne and Joan (?), on 8 April 1554 at Rotherfield, Sussex, EnglandB.8
  • Anecdote*: The marriage is recorded as "John Nen married Alis Farmer".8
  • Married Name: As of 8 April 1554, her married name was Barber alias Nynne.
  • Anecdote: John Farmer's will made 13 Oct 1558 mentions "John Nynde's two children". One of these is obviously George Nynne but who is the other, as all are accounted for in John Nynne's will made in 1589? Could it be the adopted child?6,9
  • (Witness) Will: Alice Farmer is mentioned in the will of John Barber alias Nynne dated 10 April 1589 at Rotherfield, Sussex, EnglandB.5
  • Death*: Alice Farmer died in 1595 at Rotherfield, Sussex, EnglandB.
  • Burial*: Alice Farmer was buried on 16 June 1595 at St Denys, Rotherfield, Sussex, EnglandB, The burial record just states "Barber (widow als Nynne.)"
