  This is the last Will and Testament of me Thomas Pankhurst of Hailsham in the County of Sussex yeoman First I order and direct that all my just debts and funeral expences be paid by my executors hereinafter named as soon as conveniently may be after my decease. I give devise and bequeath unto my wife Ann Pankhurst all that my freehold, messuage or tenament, land and hereditaments situate lying and being in Hailsham aforesaid and now in my own occupation, To hold the sameunto her the said Ann Pankhurst, for and during the term of her natural life, and from and after her decease I give and devise all that my said freehold, messuage or tenement land and hereditaments unto my brother Richard Pankhurst To hold to him the said Richard Pankhurst for and during the term of his natural life, and from and after his decease I give and devise all that my said said freehold, messuage or tenement land and hereditaments unto Anthony Tanner of Hellingly in the said County wheelwright To hold to him the said Anthony Tanner his heirs and assigns for ever In Trust nevertheless to sell and dispose of the same and the money arising by sale thereof I do hereby order and direct shall be divided and paid unto and amongst all my nephews and nieces in equal proportions, share and share alike, and I do expressly declare that the receipt of the said Anthony Tanner and his heirs shall at all times be a sufficient discharge for the money arising by the sale of such lands and hereditaments without the purchaser being answerable or accountable for the misapplication or nonapplication of the purchase money. All the rest residue and remainder of my estate and effects I give and bequeath to my said wife Ann Pankhurst, And I constitute and appoint the said Anthony Tanner and Thomas Burfield of Hailsham aforesaid saddler joint executors of this my will hereby revoking all former wills by me heretofore made. In witness whereof I the said Thomas Pankhurst the testator have to this my last Will and Testament set my hand and seal the nineteenth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirteen.

  In 1808 William Havard of Mansion House Street, London, John Blackman of Warbleton, gent and Robert Hawes of Markly in Warbleton sold the property to Thomas Pankhurst of Hailsham, husbandman (1-2).
  By his will of 1813, Pankhurst devised the property to his wife Ann for life, remainder to his brother Richard for life, remainder to Anthony Tanner of Hellingly, wheelwright, in trust to sell for the benefit of Pankhurst's nephews and nieces. Pankhurst died in 1815, his brother in 1820 and his wife Ann in 1827. In 1828 Anthony Tanner sold the property to John Hoper and Richard Andrew Turner, the trustees of Charles Gilbert's will (3-5).
