Richard Wicken's burial records his abode as Sheepwash. A book called "A Hassocks Pagent", published by the Keymer Parish Council, has a map of Clayton Farm in 1756 which includes a field called Sheepwash. A stream flows along the boundary of this field and there is a pond were presumably the sheep were washed. The field on the other side of the stream, opposite Sheepwash, is called The Drove.4
