• Marriage*: Sarah Thorpe married John Weller on 31 January 1805 at Fletching, Sussex, England^B, both of Fletching.¹
• Married Name: As of 31 January 1805, her married name was Weller.
• Anecdote*: It appears that Sarah died in 1805 and John Weller married Sarah's sister Elizabeth in Dec 1805 (although there is confusion in the records as to whether it was her sister Mary or Elizabeth). The marriage licence (to Mary) states that John is a widower. Sarah's burial has not been found.¹
• Death*: Sarah Thorpe died circa 1805.

Mary Thorpe

Parents:

• Birth: Mary Thorpe was born in 1765 at Fletching, Sussex, England^B.
• Baptism*: Mary Thorpe was baptized on 20 October 1765 at Fletching, Sussex, England^B.
• She was the daughter of William Thorpe and Jane Baker.
• Anecdote*: There is an Archdeaconry of Lewes marriage licence for John Weller and Mary Thorpe on 7 Dec 1805. John is a yeoman, widower otsp and Mary is of Maresfield and 39+ years old. The actual marriage in Maresfield on 10 Dec 1805 is recorded in the Sussex Marriage Index as John Weller marrying Elizabeth Thorp, not Mary. Also, there are two children baptised to a John and Elizabeth Weller in Maresfield in 1806 and 1809 (Henry and Eliza resp.) There are no baptisms for a John and Mary Weller. This needs further investigation.
• Anecdote: Another possible marriage for Mary Thorpe is 19 Dec 1792 Mary Thorpe married Joseph Holman (lic.) at Fletching. Mary was of Fletching. The marriage licence has Mary's age as 24+ years which would put her birth c1768, so this marriage is probably not for our Mary Thorpe.¹

Elizabeth Thorpe

• Baptism*: Elizabeth Thorpe was baptized on 31 January 1768 at Fletching, Sussex, England^B.
• She was the daughter of William Thorpe and Jane Baker.
• Anecdote*: Possible marriages for Elizabeth Thorpe are:
  23 Feb 1787 m. Thomas POLLARD at Fletching, both of Fletching.
  5 Jul 1798 m. William COOPER at Maresfield.
  10 Dec 1805 m. John WELLER at Maresfield, both of Maresfield (lic.) - although the marriage licence states Mary Thorpe, not Elizabeth. However, there are two children baptised to a John and Elizabeth Weller in Maresfield in 1806 and 1809 (Henry and Eliza resp.) indicating that he married Elizabeth.¹

William Langridge

• Anecdote*: William and Anne married in 1783 and there is no suitable baptism to be found in Fletching which might be his (the only William Langridge baptised there between 1740 and 1785 is William baptised 5 Nov 1770 son of John Langridge, lathe cleaver & Mary his wife, which would make him 13 years old when he married!)
• Marriage*: William Langridge married Anne Standfield on 19 May 1783 at Fletching, Sussex, England^B, both of this parish.¹

Anne Standfield

• Birth*: Anne Standfield was born circa 1755 at Sussex, England.
• Anecdote*: Anne signed her name STINDFIELD on the marriage register although the parish clerk wrote STANDFIELD. The name Standfield/Stindfield does not appear in the baptism records between 1740 and 1785. Her baptism could be:
  11 Mar 1764 bap. Anne STANFORD, dau. Edward and Susannah at Chailey. Her name is recorded as Ann STANFIELD in the Sussex Marriage Index. There are other surname variants such as STANFIELD/STANFORD which need to be checked here.

He is stated as being single on his death certificate and when Irma died in 1972 she was buried under the name Irma Tomlinson. Her death certificate does not acknowledge him as her husband, but mentions Clarence Tomlinson as her deceased spouse.
