Elizabeth Brown was baptized on 27 May 1784 at St Dunstan and All Saints, Stepney, Middlesex, England, William is a husbandman of Poplar. (Elizabeth is 4 days old).1
The baptism for Elizabeth is shown as 27 May 1784 however there is an element of doubt in that William's occupation is shown as husbandman, not tea dealer as in subsequent baptisms. Also, Elizabeth is mentioned after Harriet in William's will suggesting she was born after Harriet (ie after 1792). However, no other possible Elizabeth Brown baptisms have been found and hence it has been retained here until disproved. She was the daughter of William Brown and Mary Stone.

The date of birth comes from his baptism record. However, his birth was registered on 3 Oct 1842 in Launceston as a "male" Brown with William Brown and Hannah Brown (nee Hone) identified as the parents.2
There is a possible marriage in 1867 when a George B Brown married Elizabeth Guinnean in Young, NSW. There is also the marriage of a George B Brown to Margaret Morgan in 1874 in Newcastle which looks a possibility, given other members of the family were in Newcastle at various times. However, a family tree on Ancestry.com has this as George Benjamin Brown and the marriage date of 13 May 1874.

Hugh and Frances Brown never divorced but did not live together. Frances lived in the house in Mt Lawley and Hugh lived on a boat on the river. He used to caretake boats for a shipping company (torpedo boats, fair sized, wooden, moored near the Raffles Hotel). Frances parents had not sanctioned the marriage and she would have left after a couple of years but had a child and no options. Hugh was also considered to be a bit of a drinker. His behaviour, combined with that of his son Leonard Percival, was why his other son Hugh Philip Brown was a fervent teetotaller.
Hugh Brown died on 15 July 1931 at Public Hospital, Perth, Western Australia, Australia, at age 74. He died of valvular heart disease and heart failure.4

to Hugh Phillip Brown as this is the name by which he had always known himself. He was the son of Hugh Brown and Frances Margaret Ward.
Hugh Philip Brown married Eveline Amelia Clegg, daughter of Jacob Clegg and Margaret Bartlett, on 1 October 1910 at Baptist Church, Perth, Western Australia, Australia.
Hugh Philip Brown's wife Eva reported that c1913 (when child Hugh was a baby) that there were family meetings concerning the Ward family. Hugh Philip Brown would go off to see his family and tell her "it was none of her business". This was possibly concerning Hugh's mother's sister, Jane Mary Skelton (nee Ward) whose husband mysteriously left her on 2 September 1914 and disappeared. He withdrew all his money from their bank accounts but mailed her a bank book with 150 pounds deposited for her. She received no further communication from him and the courts finally pronounced him dead in 1927. The family meetings may have been about helping Jane, either financially or in some other way. Interestingly, Jane died in Toronto, NSW in 1947 which was Hugh Philip Brown's birthplace in 1891.
A some time Hugh and Eva lived at Swan St, Tuart Hill. They eventually sold this for 190 pounds.
