Daughter Frances Cole died age 20 years and was a teaching aid at Perth Girls School. Thomas's wife Frances died in 1858 of inflammation and Thomas died in 1873 of heart disease.
Thomas Cole died on 29 September 1873 at Perth, Western Australia, Australia, at age 62. Cause of death was heart disease.

She could not sweat properly so after about eighteen months they had to come home again on “Strathaird”. It was a wonderful adventure for the children though.
