FatherStephen Collier b. Mar 1784, d. 20 Apr 1868
MotherMary Brown b. 30 Nov 1786, d. 1849
Thomas Collier was born in 1811 at Barking, East Ham, Essex, England. He was the son of Stephen Collier and Mary Brown.
Thomas Collier married Sarah Mills, daughter of Sarah (?), on 24 October 1849 at Witney, Oxfordshire, England, Witnesses: Elizabeth Collier and Daniel Seeley.
On 7 April 1861 Thomas Collier and Sarah Mills lived at Ivy House, East Ham, Essex, England, Ivy House is across the road from the old Post Office near the old Cock Inn in East Ham and no longer exists (i.e. has been demolished). The Cock Inn was at 56 High Street North, East Ham buthas been demolished and a Barclays Bank is there now. The Old Post Office is a rare old building that survives in East Ham. Mrs Sarah Mills appears to be the victualler at the Cock Inn between 1845 and 1851 (census). The 1861 census records Thomas Collier, son of Stephen and Mary Collier, as residing at Ivy House in 1861 next to the Cock Inn and the Post Office. The 1838 tithe map of East Ham was checked and although Ivy House is not mentioned, Thomas does occupy two plots in the centre of East Ham village (plots 162 & 163) owned by Edmond Pycroft Esq. It seems reasonable to assume that this is the location of Ivy House especially as the Post Office is across the road and the Cock Inn almost adjacent to it.1,2
Thomas Collier witnessed the will of Stephen Collier dated 1 June 1863 at West Ham, Essex, England.
Thomas Collier witnessed the will of Robert Curtis dated 1864.

Elizabeth Collin

b. circa 1756, d. 1792
Elizabeth Collin was born circa 1756 at Sussex, England.
Although Elizabeth Collen/Collin's baptism has not been found, the only family with that name in Helingly in the 1750s were Charles and Lydia Collen. They had children baptised in Hellingly: Sarah 1754; Charles 1746; James 1757 and Mary 1759.
A possibility for Elizabath's baptism is 4 Feb 1753 daughter of Richard Collins and Mary (Saunders?) at Heathfield All Saints. Other baptisms there to the same family are: Susannah (1749), Sarah (1755), George (1759) and Thomas (1764). A Richard Collins was buried there in 1749 and 1776.
Another important clue is that a John Akehurst was one of the witnesses to the marriage of Thomas Farrant and Mary Collen/Collins at Laughton on 20 Apr 1778. This is likely to be the John Akehurst who married Elizabeth Collins at Hellingly on 26 Dec 1776. Were Elizabeth and Mary sisters?1
Marriage banns for Elizabeth Collin and John Akehurst were published on 24 November 1776 at St Peter & St Paul, Hellingly, Sussex, England; Banns were read on 24 Nov, 1 Dec and 15 Dec 1776.
