• Anecdote: The connection of the children John Funnell and Richard Funnell (i.e. as proposed brothers) is not proven and has been put here to assist with further research to prove or disprove the link.
  Factors in favour of the connection are:
  1. John Funnell is "of Ripe" at his marriage in 1790, as is Richard for his marriage in 1792.
  2. A DNA match with a descendant of Phillis Funnel's illegitimate child, John Funnell, born 1819 at Chiddingly. Phillis is thought to be the daughter of this John Funnell.
  The 1821 census for Chiddingly has been useful in documenting the children of the family (many do not show up in the baptisms registers), and the ages of the parents (for determining their approx year of birth).
