  This is the last Will and Testament of William Akehurst of St James St in the Parish of Brighton in the County of Sussex. Firstly I desire that all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses be paid and satisfied by my Executor hereinafter named as soon as conveniently may be after my decease and secondly, I give devise and bequeath all my real and personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever unto my dear wife Ann Akehurst for her sole use and benefit during her natural life and at her decease I give devise and bequeath all monies from every source unto and among the following of my children to be equally shared, namely William Akehurst, Stephen Akehurst, Mary Ann Akehurst, Benjamin Akehurst, Elizabeth Turner, Susanna Kettle, Rebeckah Akehurst, Sarah Anscombe, Ruth Akehurst and the issue of them afore named as are dead or shall be dead, such issue taking only the share to which their deceased parent if surviving would have been entitled to, to be equally divided among them for their own use absolutely. Also I give devise and bequeath such furniture, books, pictures, plates, linen, china and other effects which belong to me to be at the decease of my dear wife, equally shared among such of my children as shall then be alive only and I nominate constitute and appoint my son William Akehurst to be Executor of this my Will and hereby revoking all former or other Wills by me at any time heretofore made. I declare this to be my last Will and Testament, in witness whereof, I the said William Akehurst have to this my last Will and Testament set my hand the twentieth day of December in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and fifty four

  On the 2^nd day of August 1855 was sworn William Akehurst, the sole Executor in this Will named to whom was committed the execution thereof and the said William Akehurst was at the same time sworn that the goods chattels and credits of the deceased were under the value of four hundred and fifty pounds.
