  The two Elizabeth Symons must be cousins. It would also strongly suggest that John Ashdown and Robert Ashdown are brothers which supports John Ashdown being the one bap. 1566 at Rotherfield (as he had a brother Robert).³
• Anecdote: Note that the baptism of their son John in 1595 just gives the father's name. The marriage to Elizabeth Symons is therefore speculated and there is reason to be cautious as there appear to be two families baptising children at that time where the father is a John Ashdown.
