    In the Name of God Amen The nineteenth Day of October in the yeare of Our Lord God One thousand six hundred seaventy and five I William Fletcher of the Cittie of Chichester in the Countie of Sussex mercer being sick and weak in bodie but of good and sound mynd and memorie the Lord be Praised therefore, Doe make publish and declare this to be my last will and Testament in manner and forme following. First I resigne my Soule into the hands of Almightie God my Maker, hoping for eternall life and Salvaion onely by the Merits mediation and intercession of the Lord Jesus Christ my Saviour and Redeemer, in whome I hope and desire to be found not having my owne righteousness, and to obtaine the remission of all my Synns in and through his most precious Bloud And my bodie I desire to be decently buried in the Churchyard of the Parish of St Peter the great in the said Cittie of Chichester, as my Executors hereafter named shall think fit: And as for the disposall of my worldly Estate which God of his rich mercie hath beene pleased plentifully above my deserts to bestowe upon mee with Submission to the will of God I give will and dispose thereof in manner and forme following: First I give will and bequeath to my eldest daughter Mary Fletcher my best featherbedd save One, and one Feather bolster, two feather pillowes, one white Rugg, and one paire of Curtens and Vallens with windowe Curtens and Carpets and Covers for Chaires and Stooles which are wrought with black upon white Dimitie, and alsoe the white Lynings for the said Curtens and Vallens and all that belongs to the said Bedd and furniture, which was of her mothers working, to be delivered to her within one moneth next after my decease, And also the sum]e of tenn pounds to buy her mourning, And the reason why I give her noe more is, because I am bound in Bond to pay her six hundred pounds for her portion: Item I give will and bequeath to my daughter Anne Fletcher the summe of six hundred pounds of lawfull English money, to be payd to her at her Age of twentie years, And I give more to her, my said Daughter Anne Fletcher my best Bedd and Besteddle, with the Curtens and Vallens and all things belonging to the same, and alsoe the purple Hangings Chaires and stooles and other furniture now belonging to my best Chamber: Item I give and bequeath to my two Daughters Mary Fletcher the younger and Elizabeth Fletcher the Summe of five hundred and sixtie pounds apeece, to be payd to them and each of them at such times as they shall attaine their severall ages of twentie yeares: Item I nominate and appoint my onely Sonne William Fletcher to be Executor of this my last will and Testament, to whome after my Debts Legacies and funerall expences discharged and paid) I give will and bequeath all my Goods and Chatells whatsoever (not formerly given) for and towards the Payment of the Legacies aforesaid: Item I give will and devise to my said Sonne William Fletcher and to the heires males of his Bodie lawfully to be begotten All those my lands and Tenements with the appurtenances lying and being in Sidlesham in the said Countie of Sussex called or knowne by the name or names of Homesteddles and Pecknams or by whatsoever name or names the same are called, And alsoe I further give and devise to my said Sonne William Fletcher and to his heires All that my Lease of all those Closes or parcells of pasture Ground with the appurtenances conteyning by estimation twentie Acres of land be it more or lesse lying without the south Gate of the Cittie of Chichester aforesaid, And alsoe all my Estate right and Title in and to the said Lands, which was lately made and granted to mee by John Gurgany Dr. of Divinitie and Prebendarie of the Prebend of Bracklesham belonging to the Cathedrall Church of Chichester aforesaid, And I alsoe give and devise to my said Sonne William Fletcher and to his Heires All that my Lease right and Title of in and to all that the Prebend of Somerly, and all and singular the messuages Tenements buildings Lands Rents Reversions services Tythes Courts Barons perquisites of Courts Fines profits and Commodities whatsoever belonging to the said Prebend, (which are scituate lying and being in Somerly in the Parish of East Witering in the Countie of Sussex) lately to mee granted by John Mille Clerke Prebendarie of the said Prebend of Somerly aforesaid: And whereas my said Sonne William Fletcher is nowe a Minor and about the Age of nyne yeares and so not able of himselfe at present to prove and execute this my Will, I doe therefore hereby nominate appoint and desire my loving Brother John Fletcher of Steyning and my loving Kinsman William Parker of Chichester aforesaid gent and Richard Barnard of Lewes in the said Countie of Sussex woollendraper to be Executors in Trust of this my last Will and Testament And to take upon them the Execution thereof, and to be ayding and assisting in the Performance of this my Will untill my said Sonne William Fletcher shall attaine his Age of One and twentie yeares, And farther my Will and meaning is that they my said Executors in Trust shall and doe during the Minoritie of my said Sonne, demise grant and to Farme let All his Lands and tenements for the best advantage they can or may for the performance of this my Will, Amd likewise shall and may dispose of my said Daughters portions or legacies before mentioned for the best advantage they can for my said severall Children; And my Will farther is, that they my said Executors in Trust shall educate and bring=upp my said Sonne at Schoole, soe that hee may be a Scholer at the Universitie, if he please, Or else that they shall put him to some Merchant, as they and my said Sonne shall be most inclined and think fit and best for him, And to allowe my said Sonne for his maintenance and education, or for his Schooling, or placing with a Merchant as aforesaid what they my said Executors in Trust shall think fit and convenient; And my will and meaning farther is, that my said Executors in Trust shall yearely pay and allow for and towards the education and bringing upp of my Daughter Anne the Summe of twentie pounds by the yeare out of the interest arising of her portion aforesaid, And likewise the Summe of tenn pounds apeece yearly to my daughters Mary Flecher the younger and Elizabeth Fletcher towards their Education and maintenance, And the reason why I allowe them noe more is, because they shall // have severall Copiholds to which they are admitted, which will descend to them after my decease: Item I doe farther declare my will and meaning to be, that my said Executors in Trust shall once in every yeare after my decease untill my said Children shall attaine their severall ages of twentie yeares give upp and pass their Accompts to or in the presence of my loving Kinsman Thomas Barnard of Lewes aforesaid gent and my loving Brother Joseph Fletcher my loving Friends Mr Francis Page of Chichester aforesaid gent and Thomas Matthew of Lewes aforesaid woollendraper and my Cousin John Fletcher of Steyning, or before any two or more of them, or before any two credible persons which my said Kinsman Thomas Barnard shall nominate and appoint, of and concerning what my said Executors in Trust or either of them shall yearely receave or pay of or concerning my reall and personall Estate And that such Accompt and Accompts soe from tyme to time to be made as aforesaid, and to be allowed=of and attest to under the hands of two or more of the persons soe authorized to take the said Accompts as aforesaid, shall be accepted and taken by my said Sonne William to be good and true Accompts and that hee shall accept and allowe of the same when hee shall attaine his Age of One and twentie yearews, or, when hee shall make Probate of this my Will and call my said Executors in Trust to Accompt; And my will and meaning is, that such accompt and accompts soe made and attested as aforesaid shall be a good discharge to my said Executors in Trust and to every of them both in Lawe and Equitie upon Payment of such Surplusage of monyes arising in their the said Accomptants hands respectively to my said Sonne William Fletcher at his age of One and twentie yeares aforesaid, And farther my will and meaning is; that my said Executors in Trust or any or either of them shall not be chargeable with or give any Accompt of any more of the Rents and profits of my Lands or of my personall Estate then they shall severally and respectively receave of and by the same; And that the one of them shall not be accomptable for the other, nor shall be charged [space filler] with what the other shall receave, And that it shall be lawfull for them and every of them my said Executors at every Accompt to defalke[sic] allowe and keepe in their hands for themselves what will reasonably satisfie them for their labour Costs and expences which they shall be at concerning the Trusts and Accompts aforesaid, and concerning the managing of my reall and personall Estate as aforesaid: And I give and bequeath to my said Executors in Trust fortie shillings apeece to buy them each of them a Ring, And I give to my other Friends before named, who I desire to take the said Accompts tenn Shillings apeece to buy them Rings; And my Will and meaning is that my said Executors shall have twentie shillings apeece yearely at their making upp of their Accompts as aforesaid, And that those that receave their said Accompts shall have tenn shillings apeece yearely for their paines: Item I give and bequeath to my Cousin Mary Fletcher the Daughter of my late loving Brother Thomas Fletcher the summe of tenn pounds And revoking all former Wills by mee made I have to this my last Will and Testament
