Mary Artlet
Mary is probably either:
Mary Artlet bap. 29 Apr 1636 dau. Thomas Artlet alls Mighell, at Brighton St Nicholas
Mary Artlet bap. 28 Jul 1639 dau. Henry Artlet alis Mighell at Brighton St Nicholas
It is likely that Thomas and Henry are brothers. There is an early burial in Brighton of Alce Artlett on 3 Nov 1588, wife of Edward, and a baptism of Agnes Artlett 15 Feb 1589/90 to Edward Artlett in Brighton. Could Edward be the father of Thomas and Henry (there was also an Edward Artlett in Brighton who appears to be a brother of Thomas and Henry).
Also in the index was a Mary Artlet bap. 11 Jan 1640/41 dau. Edward Artlet allis Mighell at Brighton St Nicholas but she was buried Jul 1642.
Before 1600 the alias is often spelt "als Michaell" or "als Mychaell"
Relevent marriages are:
28 Nov 1619 Thomas Artlat als Mighell married Eleanor Hunn at Brighton St Nicholas
14 Jan 1629/30 Henry Artlet als Mighell married Elizabeth Gunn at Brighton St Nicholas botp
There are two Artlet als Michaell baptisms in Birdham, West Sussex in 1595/96 and 1598 (Thomas and Ann, but no parents names given).
It appears from the various baptism and marriage records that the Artlets were another family of mariners/sailors/fishermen.1,2,3

John Young
b. 20 June 1744, d. 1827
Father | Samuel Young b. 2 Mar 1708/9 |
Mother | Lucy Grayling b. c 1710, d. 1780 |
John Young was born in 1744 at Beddingham, Sussex, England.
John Young was baptized on 20 June 1744 at Beddingham, Sussex, England.1 He was the son of Samuel Young and Lucy Grayling.
The evidence for claiming that this John Young was the one baptised in 1744 at Beddingham is:
1. He lived in Tarring Neville/South Heighton/Denton area where the father Samuel Young was born (he was born in Denton).
2. The year of birth is a reasonable match to his marriage date (1768) and his age at burial (86 years in 1827 which would give a birth 1741).
3. There are no other candidate baptisms in the SFHG baptisms index close to Tarring Neville except John Young bap. 24 May 1737 at Lewes St Thomas at Cliffe, son of Lodowick and Mary Young.
4. He named one of his sons Christopher which would be the name of his brother in this family. Thename Christopher is significant as it is the name of the original YOUNG ancestor in Beddingham (died 1630) in this family.
5. The name Ruth was used in this family both before (1718) and after (1783) John Young and Lucy Bollard named their daughter Ruth.
John Young married Lucy Bollard, daughter of Francis Bollard and Mary (?), on 19 January 1768 at Tarring Neville, Sussex, England.2
John Young died in 1827 at Tarring Neville, Sussex, England.
John Young was buried on 12 August 1827 at St Mary's, Tarring Neville, Sussex, England, "age 86 years."3

William Arnold
b. circa 1665, d. 1727
William Arnold was born circa 1665 at Sussex, England.
William Arnold married Hannah Inkpen, daughter of John Inkpen and Hannah (?), on 6 June 1693 at Fletching, Sussex, England, Hannah's surname spelt INKEPEN.1
William Arnold died in 1727 at Fletching, Sussex, England.
William Arnold was buried on 9 August 1727 at Fletching, Sussex, England, surname ARNELD.2
The SFHG People Index records a William Arnold, husbandman, living in Hartfield, the possible place of baptism for Hannah Inkpen. The source was will of William Arnold, proved 19 Jan 1659 (PROB 11/286/14) held at the National Archives, Kew.
It is almost certain that William Arnold who married Hannah Inkpen is related to this William Arnold who died in 1659. William's will mentions brothers John, Richard, Thomas, Robert and brother in law Thomas Mathew of East Grinstead and wife Joan (in that order). Witnesses were Richard Mathew and Edward Luras(?). William was buried 7 Jan 1659 at Maresfield which is next to Fletching. His wife Joan was possibly buried there on 18 Feb 1668 (widow Arnoll).
William Arnold married Joan Moushurst (widow) on 21 Apr 1646 at Maresfield. The marriage states that William is of Hartfield. The Sussex Baptisms Index does not have any baptisms for William and Joan.
It is possible that our William in Fletching is the son of Robert Arnold (ie William's brother) and Mary although he did not name any of his children Robert (he named his sons William, John and Richard, in that order). They married 23 Jun 1657 at Fletching (Mary was Mary Cooper, a widow, and Robert is recorded as a husbandman).
Mary was buried in Fletching on 8 Oct 1661 ("wife of Robert"). A Robert Arnold was buried in Fletching on 21 Apr 1662. There is a baptism of a Susan Arnoll in Jun 1656 to Robert Arnoll in Fletching (mother's name not given, but her surname is Arnoll implying they were married).
Alternatively, there is a strong possibility that William's parents were John Arnold and Elizabeth Gasson who married in East Grinstead 25 Oct 1659. They had the following children there:
Richard 29 Jan 1666/67
Mary 31 May 1669
All these christian names occur in the family of William and Hannah Arnold, and there was a connection to East Grinstead as mentioned in the will.
At this stage it is difficult to say anything with certaintly, but circumstantially, the connection to Hartfield is likely.3,4
