The furnace operated until 1813. Richard Skinner was the iron founder between 1676-1688. Historically the appellation "founder" was given to the supervisor of a blast furnace, and persons who made castings in iron or other heavy metal (Wikipedia).3

John Breach

b. 1 September 1583, d. 1627

Parents:

Father: Thomas Breach b. c 1550, d. 1619
Mother: Alice Jervis d. 1614
Last Edited: 7 May 2023
  • Birth: John Breach was born in 1583 at Warbleton, Sussex, EnglandB.
  • Baptism*: John Breach was baptized on 1 September 1583 at St Mary the Virgin, Warbleton, Sussex, EnglandB.1
  • He was the son of Thomas Breach and Alice Jervis.
  • Anecdote*: There are two marriages from which John Breach may have been born:
    1. John Breach married Elizabeth Woodnutt on 13 Feb 1580/81 at Wartling. He is likely to have had a son named John. No baptisms for this marriage have been found.
    2. Thomas Breache married Alice Jervis 11 Nov 1576 at Warbleton. Thomas's will of 1619 (Thomas of Herstmonceux) mentions a son John.
In both cases, no baptism for a John has been found. However, in Thomas Breache's will of 1619 he mentions another son Richard which adds weight to Thomas being the father as John named a son Richard.
Also, if we accept Thomas Breach as the father, then the witness Thomas Stace in John's will proved 1627 would be his brother-in-law.
  • (Witness) Will: John Breach is mentioned in the will of Thomas Breach dated 23 October 1619 at Herstmonceux, Sussex, EnglandB.2,3
  • Marriage*: John Breach married Alice Peerse on 3 July 1620 at Dallington, Sussex, EnglandB.4
  • Anecdote: There is a burial of an infant (no name) son of John BEACH on 12 Apr 1623 at Warbleton St Mary.5
  • Anecdote: The son Richard is not mentioned in his father's will of 1627 and neither can his burial record be found at Warbleton or Herstmonceux. The baptism has been verified in the original parish register though. It is immediately after another Richard baptised on the same day. Could it have been meant to be John, with the previous John (bap. 1623) appearing to have been buried a few days after his baptism?6
  • Will*: John Breach left a will made on 10 May 1627 at Warbleton, Sussex, EnglandB.7,8
