In the name of God Amen in the 26th day of August 1717 I Walter Burt of Keymer in the county of Sussex Carpenter being sick of body but of sound and perfect mind and memory praised be God for the same do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following
First I commend my soul into the hands of Almighty God my maker hoping that through the meritorious death and passion of Jesus Christ my only saviour and Redeemer to receive free pardon and forgiveness of all my sins and As for my body to be buried by the discretion of my executor here after nominated whereas I have surrendered my house and lands at Haywards Heath to the use of my last will & testament, I give to my executor to sell to help pay my debts and legacies Item I give to my loving wife a bed and bedstead and necessary household stuff for the term of her life to be allowed by my executor Item I give and bequeath to my son Walter Burt 5 shillings to be paid by my executor within 12 months after my decease Item I give and bequeath 10 shillings to my son Benjamin to be paid by my executor within 12 months after my decease Item I give and bequeath to my son Stephen Burt and to my daughter Mary Burt and my daughter Ann Beeding and to my daughter Estar Lepard ten pounds apiece to be paid them within 12 months after my decease and further my will and mind is that if any of my children should die before their legacy becomes payable their part should be divided amongst the living Item all the rest of my goods and chattels whatsoever I give unto my son William Burt conditionally that he shall pay all my debts legacies and make him sole executor of this my last will and testament revoking all other wills and testaments.
