- Birth: Sarah Wickens was born in 1795 at Keymer, Sussex, EnglandB.
- Baptism*: Sarah Wickens was baptized on 25 January 1795 at St Cosmos & St Damian, Keymer, Sussex, EnglandB, surname spelt WIGGINS.1
- She was the daughter of Richard Wickens and Sarah Belchamber.
- Anecdote*: Candidates for Sarah's baptism are:
1. At Lindfield All Saints on 24 Oct 1795 dau. of John Wickens and Mary.

3. At Keymer St Cosmos & St Damian on 25 Jan 1795 dau. of Richard and Sarah Wiggins.
The Lindfield baptism is accounted for by the marriage of Sarah Wicking in Lindfield in 1818. The witnesses are given as Jn.W. and My.W. who are likely her parents (John and Mary) which matches the baptism information.
The 1851census says our Sarah Knight (nee Wickens) was born Keymer. The 1861 census says she was born Wivelsfield but the 1871 census says Keymer. John Wickens
b. 2 July 1732, d. 1810
Parents:
Last Edited: 8 May 2023
- Birth: John Wickens was born in 1732 at Streat, Sussex, EnglandB.
- Baptism*: John Wickens was baptized on 2 July 1732 at Streat, Sussex, EnglandB.1
- He was the son of John Wickens and Elizabeth Parker.
- Anecdote*: The best candidate for this John Wickens appears to be: John Wiggens baptised 2 July1732 at Streat, son of John Wiggens and Elizabeth Parker (married 1711 at Streat, both of Westmeston according to marriage licence). They have been shown here as his parents to assist with further research but the connection should be treated with caution.
The will of John Wickens of Keymer, 1758 would appear to disprove the theory that John is an undocumented (i.e.no baptism found) son of John Wickens and Eliabeth Box married 1718 at Clayton (an assumption made in many trees), as the will only mentions a daughter Elizabeth.
Update (16 May 2019): There is a burial for a John Wiggens on 20th July 1737 at Streat, Sussex, England (Family Search Reference GS Film Number 001067368, Digital Folder Number 004427648, Image Number 00050). However, it has been shown to be his father (refer his mother's will where son John is stll alive). - (Witness) Will: John Wickens is mentioned in the will of Elizabeth Parker dated 7 June 1751 at Westmeston, Sussex, EnglandB.2,3
- Marriage*: John Wickens married Mary Cox, daughter of Thomas Cox and Mary White, on 29 July 1753 at Clayton, Sussex, EnglandB, John "of Keymer" and Mary "same", surname spelt WICKENS.4,5
- Death*: John Wickens died in 1810 at Keymer, Sussex, EnglandB.
