Samuel Verrall
b. 9 November 1746, d. 1821
Father | William Verrall b. 7 Feb 1714 |
Mother | Mary Howell b. 3 Mar 1710/11, d. 1782 |
Samuel Verrall was born in 1746 at Willingdon, Sussex, England.
Samuel Verrall was baptized on 9 November 1746 at St Mary, Willingdon, Sussex, England.1 He was the son of William Verrall and Mary Howell.
Note that there are two possibilities for our Samuel Verrall:
1. bap. 9 Nov 1746 son of William and Mary Verral at Willingdon.
2. bap. 26 Jan 1736 son of Cephas and Mary Verrall at Eastbourne.
However, there is the marriage of Samuel VIRRELL and Elizabeth Batcheller on 23 Oct 1758 at Willingdon which has to be the second Samuel as the first would be too young. Samuel and Elizabeth had a lot of children baptised in Willingdon starting from 1759 to 1781. The first born male was named William (1759), and the second was named Cephas (1763), then Samuel (1764). The fact that he named one of his sons Cephas also supports the link to the 1736 baptism for this Samuel. This leaves the 1746 baptism for our Samuel who named his first two sons Samuel and William.1
Samuel Verrall married Mary Wilkins, daughter of Thomas Wilkins and Susanna Carter, on 25 June 1769 at Eastbourne, Sussex, England, both of Eastbourne, witnesses: Edwd Hicks, John Hart.2
On 4 June 1770 Samuel Verrall lived at Meads, Eastbourne, Sussex, England, from the will of Samuel's uncle, Edward Verrall.
Samuel Verrall is mentioned in the will of Edward Verrall dated 4 June 1770 at Willingdon, Sussex, England.3
Samuel Verrall died in 1821 at Eastbourne, Sussex, England.
Samuel Verrall was buried on 22 March 1821 at St Mary, Eastbourne, Sussex, England, "Sam VIRRELL, 74 years."4
