John Wickens

- Birth*: John Wickens was born circa 1690 at Sussex, England.
- He was the son of Walter Wickens and Elizabeth Wright.
- Anecdote*: The baptism for John Wiggens/Wickens has not been found but a reasonable guess would be that he is the son of Walter Wiggens (1652- ) of Westmeston. Walter lived in the right area (Westmeston is next to Streat) and his mother Alice, was buried at Streat. Also, his eldest child was Thomas Wiggens, perhaps explaining John's use of that name for his first child. Despite a wide search, there are no records to be found for Walter Wiggens and his family after 1687 (no children baptised, no burials), suggesting a deficiency in the record keeping or even religious nonconformity. I have speculatively linked John to that family and proposed a birth date of c1690 for him.
- Name Variation: John Wickens was also known as Wiggens.
- Marriage License: John Wickens and Elizabeth Parker obtained a marriage licence on 21 July 1711 at Archdeaconry of Lewes, Sussex, England, John WIGGENS, husbandman of Westmeston; Elizabeth PARKER of the same parish.1
- Marriage*: John Wickens married Elizabeth Parker, daughter of John Parker and Jane Stiance, on 11 August 1711 at Streat, Sussex, EnglandB, John WIGGENS.1
- Death*: John Wickens died in 1737 at Streat, Sussex, EnglandB.
