This is the last Will and Testament of me Thomas Stoner of Manningsheath in the parish of Nuthurst in the county of Sussex carpenter I give devise and bequeath all my freehold cottages or tenements outbuildings gardens land and premises situate at Manningsheath Common in the parish of Nuthurst aforesaid and also all my personal estate and effects (after payment of my just debts & my funeral & testamentary expences) unto and to the use of my son in law William Mitchell of Clarence Place St George’s Road New Kent Road in the County of Surrey Coal and Coke Merchant and Ann his wife and their heirs exors [executors] admors [administrators] & assigns for ever Subject nevertheless and I do hereby charge my said freehold premises with the payment of one fourth part of the rents and profits thereof unto my daughter Hannah the wife of John Jennings of Cuckfield in the said County of Sussex Labourer for and during her natural life for her separate use and her receipt alone to be a sufficient discharge for the same But I direct that she shall contribute & allow thereout one fourth part of the expences for the necessary repairs of the said premises And my will and mind further is and I do hereby direct that in case my personal estate shall be insufficient for the payment of my just debts and my funeral and testamentary expences that the whole of the rents of my said freehold premises shall be applied for that purpose until full payment and satisfaction thereof And I do hereby appoint my said son in law William Mitchell sole Executor of this my will And I revoke all former wills by me made and declare this to be my last will and testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twelfth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty seven – Thomas Stoner – Signed sealed published and declared by the said Thomas Stoner as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who in his presence at his request and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses – Mary Elphick – Thos Briggs – Geo Elphick Horsham
