This is the last Will and Testament of me Alexander Ashdown of Forest Row in the parish of East Grinstead in the County of Sussex _ wheeler.
First I will order and direct that all my just debts funeral and testamentary expences be fully paid and satisfied by my Executor hereafter named
Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth the wife of James Gibb my bedstead bed bedding and linen of every description for her own absolute use and benefit
Item I give and bequeath unto my son John Ashdown my silver watch and apendages thereto
Item I give and bequeath all my wearing apparel of every kind to be equally divided among those of my children as follows – namely – Alexander Ashdown – John Ashdown – Edward Ashdown – Lydia the wife of Nathaniel Seale – Amelia the wife of William White – and Ann Ashdown – All the before mentioned bequests to be delivered to the respective parties within one month after my decease by my Executor hereinafter named
Item I give and bequeath unto my friend Ralph Newman of Forest Row in the parish of East Grinstead aforesaid Shopkeeper the sum of Five pounds
Item I give devise and bequeath all the rest residue and remainder of my property both real and personal ready money securities for money or of what kind or nature soever and wheresoever the same may be and which I may die possessed of or be entitled to unto my friend the said Ralph Newman his Executors or Administrators In Trust nevertheless to sell and dispose of all such part and parts thereof as are in their nature saleable and not hereinbefore given and bequeathed and after payment of all my just debts funeral and testamentary expences as before directed and Legacy also hereby given to divide and pay the same to and among all my children share and share alike namely – my Sons – the said Alexander Ashdown – John Ashdown – Edward Ashdown – and my said daughters Elizabeth the wife of James Gibb and Lydia the wife of Nataniel Seale - Amelia the wife of William White and Ann Ashdown and to be paid them respectively as soon as conveniently may be after my decease and in case of the death of any or either of them my said children before the same becomes payable their share or shares to be paid to their lawful representatives.
And Lastly I hereby nominate constitute and appoint the said Ralph Newman Sole Executor of this my Will and I desire authorise and hereby empower him the said Ralph Newman his Executors or Administrators to retain and reimburse himself or themselves out of such Trust propmises all and every such reasonable costs and charges which he or they may expend sustain or be put unto in and about the execution of this my will – And also I do hereby revoke and make void all other wills by me at any time heretofore made and declare this only to be my last Will and Testament
