• Anecdote: They lived in Penshurst between 1724 and 1733 as their children were baptised there during that time. It appears that between 1734 and 1741 that Samuel and Margaret lived elsewhere and then returned to Penshurst. A search of surrounding parishes might well turn them up during that period.

• Anecdote: On a Datchurst manorial court record dated 7 Oct 1747, the death of Elizabeth Wheatly is noted. Her substantial estate was inherited by Margaret wife of Samuel Wait, Thomas Morley and [blank, but later records show it to be George Hall] still an infant. The properties included a house and lands called Wesbler and Hares and one hundred acres of land in Tunbridge and Leigh, and a barn and 14 acres of land called Kipps Land near Stocks Green, a farm called Dulhams, and a tenement called the Half Moon.²

• Marriage*: Frances Mary Barber married Sidney Lewes Smith, son of Sophia Smith, on 19 March 1848 at St John the Evangalist, Hildenborough, Kent, England^B, Witnesses: William Chapman and Rebecca Chapman.^4,5
• Anecdote*: The marriage certificate for the above was obtained but it does not give the father's name or occupation for either Frances or Sidney (probably because Sidney was illegitimate and may not have known his father's name). Neither are their ages given, just "of full age". It does state that their residence at time of marriage was Tunbridge.
• Anecdote: An alternate possible marriage in 1848 which needs further checking - Frances Mary Barber and John Startup. In the 1861 census, Frances gives her place of birth as Marden in Kent which is about 20kms east of Tonbridge.⁶
• Anecdote: Possible marriage to James Mercer in 1839 which also needs further checking. 1851 census for Maidstone has her born in Lamberhurst, Sussex c1821. Interestingly, there is a Deborah Barber born Ticehurst living with them.⁷
